He has been a driving force in many London tech start-ups and is a regular on the Shoreditch arts hacker scene. In an earlier life, Farnell won awards as an innovative audio engineer producing content and software for radio, TV, films, games, and popular music acts.
While continuing to inspire creative audio producers, he mainly teaches and consults in cybersecurity. As a passionate advocate of software freedom and digital rights, Farnell has written on these subjects since 2015.
Dr. Farnell's statement:
"Jonathan Bertrand's work with Social Media Awareness seems sincerely committed to investigating and sharing research on a highly troubling issue of our time: widespread addiction to digital systems. Moreover, his work seems oriented towards turning theories and experimental evidence into practical therapeutic tools for helping people who experience distress from the use of social media and smartphone technologies."
